Your Questions Answered

Any questions you may have about obtaining an Extended Car Warranty from Auto Auto Australia might be found here. You can also contact us at any time for further information or request a call back for a time that suits you.

What is extended car warranty cover?

Extended car warranty cover is an affordable and convenient way to continue to receive the benefits you have enjoyed through your manufacturer’s warranty. Your extended car warranty begins when your manufacturer's warranty ends. So there's no overlap - you only pay for the extension period.

What does this mechanical warranty coverage policy cover?

We’ll cover you against the failure of mechanical and electrical components that were covered under your original car manufacturer’s warranty. In the event of a mechanical and electrical breakdown, we will rectify covered components up to today's market value of your vehicle.

How do I know if I'm eligible?

There are a few exclusions of vehicles for this coverage but for the better part, we cover most popular models. The policy holder needs to be 21 years of age or older.

We may not cover you if you use your vehicle for commercial purposes, emergency services, racing or other unacceptable uses. Please see the PDS for a full list of exclusions.

Why is there a 90 day wait period?

The waiting period is the time you must wait after buying an extended warranty before you can lodge a claim

How long is the waiting period?

Motor Vehicle currently within manufacturer's warranty:

The Auto Auto extended warranty can provide you continuous coverage (no 90 day wait period) on the proviso that you can supply a licenced mechanic’s invoice documenting the motor vehicle has had a full manufacturers servicing within the past 60 days.

The mechanics invoice must acknowledge the date the servicing was completed, the kilometres of the motor vehicle at the time of servicing and the date of the expiry of the manufacturer’s warranty.

Please proceed to purchase with a commencement date 90 days in the future. Upon receipt of your last Service Invoice or recent Contract of Sale, we can adjust your policy to commence the day after the manufacturer / dealer statutory warranty expires.

Motor vehicle with no manufacturer's warranty:

Any motor vehicle that is outside the manufacturers warranty period or cannot supply the above invoice, the waiting period will be 90 days from the extended warranty commencement before you can file a claim.

Why do I need extended car warranty?

Your vehicle is an important investment. Like any other investment, you should protect it.

The reality is that, with any vehicle, the risk of mechanical breakdown increases after your manufacturer warranty expires.

You may be thinking that you need to update your car as it is soon out of warranty. But if you love your car and want to keep it, you can avoid that hassle and cost of unwanted repairs by taking out our mechanical extended car warranty cover.

Where will my car be repaired in the event of a breakdown?

You can take your vehicle to your nearest franchise dealer or contact AWN for the closest authorised repairer.

In all cases, be sure to provide the selected repairer with your extended warranty policy documents. The repairer will be required to diagnose the failure and provide AWN with a detailed quote for parts and labour. Provided the quote meets AWN’s requirements, authorisation will be given to commence the repair (by way of a unique approval number) and the repairer will be paid directly by AWN. It’s that easy.

Who are your authorised repairers?

AWN has hundreds of authorised repairers across Australia that are continuously reviewed at the time of each repair. AWN has agreements with each authorised repairer to make sure your vehicle is a priority and allow you to collect your vehicle once a unique authorisation number is issued. All AWN authorised repairers follow industry standards which allow for a swift submission and processing of your claim. Please keep in mind that if you choose not to utilise the AWN authorised network, AWN cannot be held responsible for delays caused by the wrong diagnosis, inadequate quotes, or failure to correctly follow the AWN claims process.

If your selected franchise dealer fails to provide an adequate quote or provides an excessive quote based on industry standards, AWN retains the right to move the vehicle to an authorised repairer or provide you with the option to offset the balance.

Are the parts new if something has to be repaired?

We always repair with new, genuine parts wherever possible. We only use reconditioned parts where new parts are unavailable.

Can we go to any repairer if we are having car problems?

Repairs we pay for under this warranty must be undertaken by an approved repairer at a price acceptable to the insurer.

Do we have to get a quote before repairs can be carried out?

Yes, but AWN Insurance will deal directly with the repairer to approve the claim before work starts. And they will also pay the repairer directly.

Can I change my mind?

You may cancel your extended car warranty for any reason within 30 days from the application date. This cooling-off period applies if no claim has been paid and you have no intention of making a claim or have not made a valid claim, we will refund the premium paid, less any taxes or duties we cannot recover from other sources. After the cooling-off period ends you still have a cancellation right.

What if I sell my car?

The policy is fully transferable to the person to whom you sell your car. This is another benefit of extending the warranty of your car. Cars with extended warranty cover usually sell faster and for a higher amount.

Can I get coverage if my manufacturer's warranty has expired?

Yes. If there is no manufacturer warranty and no statutory warranty applicable, you can still get extended car warranty coverage. However, it will commence in 90 days to ensure the buyer is not buying the warranty to rectify a pre-existing condition.

Do I need to service my car with my selling dealer?

As long as you get the car serviced on time, as per the logbook, you may take it to any licenced motor mechanic. See the full PDS for more details.

Can I get a 1 or 2 year policy?

We currently only offer a 3 year extended car warranty policy online as it presents the best value for you, the customer. The policy is fully transferable if you sell your car in the future. It should be noted that cars with extended warranty cover usually provide better value when selling to a new owner.

What are the benefits of this cover?

Give yourself protection against the cost of unexpected and potentially very expensive mechanical and electrical repairs. We know insurance isn’t sexy but what is smart and sexy is not having to pay in the event of a mechanical breakdown. You’ve got better things to spend your money on.

Simple and affordable protection to get you back on the road quickly with no upfront cost or excess. You are insured by a leading Australian company that will process your claim within five days. They pay the approved repairer directly.

Easy to purchase. Unlike with most other extended car warranty insurances, you can purchase this product in just a few clicks.

Buying a Used Car

Can I get Extended car warranty coverage on a pre-owned car?

Yes. The vehicle must be under 8 years old and travelled less than 140,000kms and some other eligibility criteria may apply (see PDS for full details).

Purchasing a Pre-Owned vehicle from a Dealership

If warranty repairs are required in the first three months after delivery it would be the dealer's responsibility to repair the car.

When purchasing extended used car warranty coverage from Auto Auto Australia, simply select the commencement date of your policy to be the day after your statutory warranty expires. This will provide you with continuous coverage without a gap. If in doubt, simply select your commencement date to be 3 months after you picked up your vehicle from the dealership.

For example, you purchased a Used Car on 01/01/2022; select the commencement date of your extended warranty coverage to be 02/04/2022.
When purchasing a used vehicle from a car dealership, you will receive a statutory warranty of 3 months or 5,000km from the date of sale (whichever occurs first). This applies to second-hand passenger vehicles that have travelled less than 160,000 km and are less than 10 years old.

Purchasing a Pre-Owned vehicle privately

If purchasing a used vehicle privately still covered under manufacturer warranty; simply select your extended pre-owned car warranty commencement date to be the day after expiry.

If there is no manufacturer car warranty and no statutory warranty applicable, you can still get coverage however the commencement date must be 90 days in the future. Like health insurance, this is to ensure the buyer is not buying the warranty to rectify a pre-existing condition.
